This paper takes the study of Cationic Guar Gum as basis, first measured the N content and the molecular weight of CGG samples including domestic and foreign products from different companys, then put them into shampoos with the same formula and compared the proformance between them. In the CGG synthetic process, microwave-irradiation was used and the product was characterized. Guar Gum was hydrolyzed by enzyme to synthesize oligomeric CGG, then the product was compared with 4 samples through throwing them into shampoos.According to the function and the principle which the cationic polymer works on shampoo, the impact of the N content and the molecular weight of guar 3-chloro-2- (hydroxypropyl) trimethylammonium (shampoo conditioner) on the combing of shampoo was studied. Kjeldahl apparatus and GPC were used to measure the N content and molecular weight of CGG from different companies. A series of shampoos with these different CGG products were made. Research shows that the cationic guar gum with higher N content and smaller molecular weight results better combing ability.CGG was obtained by means of microwave-irradiation via using guar gum as raw materials, 3-chloro-2-(hydroxypropyl) trimethylammonium chloride as cationic etherifying agent, sodium hydroxide as catalyst and isopropanol as solvent. Experimental results shows that compared with traditional synthesis method, the reaction time decreases to 1/6 and the rate of reaction efficiency increase by using microwave. The N content of product was measured by Kjeldahl apparatus. The best synthesis conditions were optimized as follow: isopropanol is used as solvent, reaction power 300W, reaction temperature 40℃, radiate time 35min, the amount of reactant n(etherifying): n(CGG) =0.25:1, the amount of catalyst n(NaOH): n(CGG) =0.18:1. The product was characterized by 1H NMR, IR and GPC.Guar Gum was hydrolyzed to different extent by enzyme and etherified by using microwave-irradiation under the best synthesis conditions, then applied in shampoos. The result shows that the best rate of hydrolysis is 7.34%.The function of self-made CGG in shampoo was compared with 4 samples, the results shows that self-made CGG has better proformance and good market prospect.
