The power toolrest is the key functional component of NC lathe and turn/milling machines, and it can realize the function of tool reserve, auto tool exchange and holding the tool to cut. At present, NC machine tool is developing to the direction of high speed, high efficiency; high precision and compounding direction. As the key functional component, high performance NC power toolrest is significant to improve the machine tool overall performance, reliability, stability and efficiency. Research based on a great quantity data of toolrest materials show that the structural parameters of toolrest cutterhead is one of the key points which can affect the toolrest performance, and comprehensive performance test is an important means to test the performance of the toolrest. So research about parameters optimization of toolrest and cutterhead, toolrest comprehensive performance testing is carried out in this paper.Cutterhead is the important component of the power toolrest, and its structural parameters is significant to the toolrest overall performance. By means of consulting a large number of reference documentation, taking the center height 80mm circle cutterhead for example and with the aim of the cutterhead quality, this paper made the structure data optimization to solve the cutterhead size inertia and rigidity problem and solves the objective function with the sequential quadratic programming algorithm, accomplished the cutterhead structure data optimization. In order to prove feasibility of optimization result, this paper made the static characteristic analysis and dynamic characteristic analysis to the toolrest, and the analysis result proved that the optimized toolrest has good static and dynamic characteristic, the optimization method is feasibility and solved the cutterhead size inertia problem. The optimization method is suitable for the other toolrest. The optimized toolrest has been applied by Dalian Golden CNC Group Corporation.Accurate test means and perfect test platform is the premise to further study the product performance and ensure the product quality. Because of this, combined with the relevant national standards and actual production needs, the comprehensive performance test scheme of toolrest is presented to study the dynamic characteristic test method and comprehensive performance test key technology of the toolrest positioning accuracy, vibration, temperature rise, Y-axis displacement, noise, etc. According to the test needs, the scheme basic demand, the overall test scheme, the overall function, the hardware overall structure and the software development mode are made. Based on test principle and methods, test subsystems are established and instruments are chosen to complete the signal test. The virtual instrument platform LabVIEW is utilized to develop the measuring software which integrates multiple functions such as parameters setting, data acquisition and data display, etc. The data acquisition software is debugged and the condition is made for the toolrest comprehensive test research.
