Tetrabutylammonium oxalate and tetrabutylammonium hydroxide as a phase transfer catalyst was prepared by ion exchange method and acid-base neutralization respectively. The main content of this paper is showed as following:First of all, advantages and disadvantages of various methods of preparation quaternary ammonium hydroxide by quaternary ammonium salt were compared. Research method of ion exchange was established. The type of resin was determined by the contrast of exchange capacity and exchange effects between strong basic anion exchange resin and macro-reticular typeion exchange resin.Secondly, tetrabutylammonium hydroxide was prepared by the ion exchange method applied between gel and strong basic anion exchange resin (OH-) and aqueous solution of tetrabutylammonium bromide. The synthesis conditions were investigated in the laboratory. Ion exchange was studied by two kinds of technologies:batch exchange and column exchange. The result of the research showed that the concentration of tetrabutylammonium hydroxide solution prepared by batch method couldn't meet the requirements of reagent grand. The research of the column exchange indicated that when the concentration of tetrabutylammonium hydroxide was 27.0%, the temperature was 15℃, the concentration of regeneration liquid sodium hydroxide was 5.0%, and the ratio of height to diameter of the exchange column was 15, the degree of exchange would be greater than 86.0%, and The concentration of tetrabutylammonium hydroxide solution would be greater than 10.0%.The column exchange method is simple and the used ion exchange resin can be conveniently regenerated. The ion exchange method used to prepare tetrabutylammonium hydroxide significantly reduces the cost, while the product quality can meet the requirements of reagent grand. This is a low-carbon, economical, and environment-friendly production process.Finally, the tetrabutylammonium oxalate solution was prepared by the reaction between tetrabutylammonium hydroxide and different kinds of concentration of oxalic acid. Test results show that when the concentration of tetrabutylammonium hydroxide was 10.0%, the concentration of oxalic acid was 10.0%, the temperature was 30℃, the effect of tetrabutylammonium oxalate solution was best.
