Magnetic Flux Leakage detecting technique is a newly developed magnetic NDT technique with highly automatization. Because of its high sensitivity to defects and its fast detecting speed, also it requires low for the cleanliness of surface of the specimen, and it costs low and is easy to operate, as a result it's widely used in NDT of equipmen of army, pipeline and pressure vessel. This paper first introduces the research background of Magnetic Flux Leakage technique, expatiated the principle and features of Magnetic Flux Leakage technique and its advantages over other NDT techniques. This paper demonstrated the feasibility of setting up a 2-D Magnetic Flux Leakage detecting system, and builds up a 2-D Magnetic Flux Leakage NDT system in both Fenite Element Method and experimental method containing functions of exciting, magnetization, detecting and analyzing. Based on the direct-current and harmonic exciting, pulsed exciting which is more superior is promoted. Still in both Fenite Element Method and experimental method this kind of method is proved feasible. Moreover, image using 2-D Magnetic Flux Leakage detecting method on defects and flaws on rail when running in high speed, and a programme is proposed, which is proved feasible after being calculated and simulated with some tool software such as Ansys and Comsol Multiphysics. Further more, it is promoted that PMFL combined with some other EM detecting technique such as Pulsed Eddy Current (PEC) and Pulsed Magnetic Resistance (PMR), which is also proved feasible in theory and FEM simulation. At last, works in this paper is summarized and some suggestion to further work is proposed.
