In order to resolve the serious environment pollution of plastic and the source of non petroleum material, the study of biodegradable plastics are being concerned. Starch is a important natural polymer and has much property such as widely source, the lower price, renewable and biodegradable material, and so on . The hydrogen bond interaction between starch macromolecule is strong which obstructs the molecule movement, so native starch have a poor processing ability. Thermoplastic starch(TPS) can be obtained by destruction of the granules in the presence of under heat and shear stress. In this thesis,we reviewed the research situation and the developing trend of biodegradable plastics. In order to resolve the existing problems in biodegradable plastics, an ideal of developing starch-based full-biodegradable films with good mechanical properties and flame retardant has been provided. The main contents and conclusions as follows:1. Chitosan(CS) was intensify of starch films, glycerol was plasticizers of starch films. The optimal mass proportion of CS to starch was2:1. The optimum content of plasticizers was 40% (of starch and CS).2. Mechanical properties of the blend films were improved by adding 8% palygorskite of starch and CS. The tensile strength of the film was 12.6MPa,and the breaking elongation rate was 132%.3. The structural characteristics of the films were investigated by infrared spectroscopy(IR), X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron micrography (SEM). The results demonstrated that: Starch and CS were cross-linked by glutaraldehyde and were farther articulated by palygorskite, then dense and homogeneous network was generated.4. By means of degradable trials of soil and microbe field characteristic test and the biodegradability of two starch films were determined. The degradation rate of the can be 62% and 73% respectively by 50 day.5. Fire resistance of the blend films were improved by adding red phosphorus , By oxygen index burn testing, Flame retardant was 5% to 11% (of starch and CS),. oxygen index burn was between 30 and 40. This paper contained the research of the properties of starch biodegradable plastics by the palygorskite and the research of the properties of inflaming retarding of starch plastics, which extended the research fields of starch biodegradable plastics , and developed a new application prospect for the abundant palygorskite and loess resource of the local.
