Agitators have good mixed function, and they are widely used in many industrial processes. The agitators are one of the most common chemical unit equipment. But the present agitators can't separate the metal and mix the grain. This paper chooses the special agitator of the soft grain machining system for the national natural science fund project (NO:50875242) as the research object. A patented technology (authorized) that can separate the metal and mix the grain was proposed. Using FLUENT 6.3 software, the flow field of the special agitator was simulated, and the structure was optimized. The research results provide a good foundation for building the soft grain machining system.The main research and results of this paper include:1. The 3D physical model of the special agitator was built. The flow field of the special agitator was simulated by the FLUENT 6.3 software. The distribution law of pressure, velocity vector, concentration of the grain and concentration of the metal in the special agitator were got. It has been shown that a little concentration of the metal had little influence on the flow field of the special agitator.2. A patented technology (authorized) that can separate the metal and mix the grain was proposed. The axial flow stirring impeller named CBY was selected. The good formula named Zwietering for critical speed was selected. The structure of the special agitator was optimized. As a result, the good agitator that can separate and mix was got.3. The installation height of stirring impeller ( C D ) were 1 6 , 1 5 , 1 4 , 1 3. The rotational speed was 100rpm. And 4 models were built. The flow field of the special agitator was simulated by the FLUENT 6.3 software. The distribution law of pressure, velocity vector and concentration of the grain in the special agitator were got. The law of different installation height affect flow field was got. 4. The rotational speed were 50rpm,75 rpm,100rpm,125rpm. The installation height of stirring impeller was 80mm. And 4 models were built. The flow field of the special agitator was simulated by the FLUENT 6.3 software. The distribution law of pressure, velocity vector and concentration of the grain in the special agitator were got. The law of different rotational speed affect flow field was got.This paper is the important part of the national natural science fund project. The research results may provide some references for the hydraulic design and structure optimization of the agitator.
