The formazan dye was one kind of special polyheterocycle dyes which was a sort of two azo dyes with the same carbon atom. Because of its instability, the formazan compound often generated metal complex dyes with metal ions. The formazan metal-complexed dyes was colorful, except for wool, polyamide fiber dyeing, also connected to the active group for cellulose fiber dyeing.Based on the retrival of bibliographer, the application, syntheses and relationship between structure and properties of iron complex formazan dyes were comprehensively reviewed in the dissertation. The main kinds of complex ion of traditional metal complex dyes were Cr3+,Co2+,Ni2+. The complex ions wers dissolved out by human saliva or body fluids, then being absorbed. The toxicity of iron far less than chromium, cobalt, nickel and in textiles was not limited to the iron content. Consequently , the iron-complexed dyes maybe considered as more environmentally friendly than chromium and cobalt-complexed dyes. The synthetic methods of central carbon atom in iron complex formazan substituted by different substitutants were studied, the five intermediates base derivatives were obtained and the yield of those were more than 85%. A series of five compounds of formazan, four iron compounds of formazan acid dyes and one iron complex formazan reactive dye were synthesized.Based on analyzing the mechanism of the reactions and procedure, the syntheses and technology parameters of iron complex formazan acid dyes were studied. The formazan iron complex dye was obtained through company reaction of the substituted hydrazone, the diazo salt of 2-aminophenol and iron ion. The intermediate 4-sulfophenylhydrazinebenzaldehydedrazone was synthesized starting from 4-aminobenzene sulfonic acid by diazotization, reduction and condensation with substituted aldehyde. The process for preparation of the key intermediate substituted hydrazone was studied and the optimal process parameters were selected as follows∶reduction temperature was 40℃, n(sodium bisulfite )∶n(phenylhydrazine) = 2.25∶1, to restore the pH value was 6, the yield was 89.6 %. The product of the structure was confirmed by 1HNMR, MS and UV.Meanwhile, formazans-iron complex reactive dyes were preliminary explorated. Formazans were btained starting from 2-amino-4-sulfobenzoic acid which was diazotized, reacted with 4-sulfophen ylhydrazine-benzaldehydedrazone. The formazans-iron complex reactive dyes were combined by formazans being complexed with iron ion and hydrolyzed, finally combined with active groups.The effects of different substitutes on their properties were analyzed. The effects of different substitutes on central carbon atom in iron complex formazans were positively important. The color was from light to strong according to the sequence of aliphatic substitutes, aromatic substitutes, heterocycle substitutes.
