To prepare the high-purity quartz by removing impurity from the quartzite is an effective way to solve the problem that the shortage of the natural crystal can not meet the increasing need of ? the high-technology industry, so it plays an important role in improving the economy of our country. Our study concentrates on purifying physically and chemically the quartzite of Yunnan province by scouring, classification, magnetic separation, flotation and acid leaching. The experimental results show that the quartz concentrate containing SiO2 99.8% and Fe2O3 0.05% can not be obtained by any above introduced purifying method. However, any one of the following combination processes can attain the satisfactory results: scouring by the ball grinding-classification-magnetic separatkm; scouring by the bar grinding-classification-magnetic separation; scouring with the special chemical reagent-classification-magnetic separation. The last one has the best purification effect. The productivity of its quartz concentrates is 13% to 18 % higher than that of any other combinations and its concentrate product contains SiO2 99.81% and Fe2O3 0.023%. If this product is treated by flotation and acid leaching after flotation respectively, the high-purity quartz product containing Si02 99.93%, Fe203 0.007% and A1203 0.02% and super-purity quartz product containing Si02 99.98%, Fe203 0.00 1%, A1203 0.02% and TiO2 ≤ 0.012% can be obtained respectively The economicevaluation of the investment profits rate is 47% and the time inWhich the investment can be recovered is tWo years and two months.AIl of the study results will make it possible to build an quartprocessing pIat of 30,000-ton caPacity every year in Yunnanprovince. The resuIts on the scouring mechanism show that theactive molecules of the scouring reagent are absorbed chemicallyand specially on the surface of the quwtz and imPUities particles. This can reduce the surface energy and enhance the rePulsive forceof all the particles. The reagent is very impbrtat in' disintegratingthe impurities from the qundite and scattering the fine pwticles. This is why it was adoPted in our exPerimental research work.
