~?~: Abstract ABSTRACT The thesis consists of the following four parts. Part I:A review on research and development of synthesis and application of starch graft copolymers. Based on the systematical consulation of the literature documents, this review sumamarized the study and progress of preparation and utilization of starch grafting with one or more vinyl monomers.A various of reaction systems and conditions such as period, temperature, concentration of monomers and pH,all of which have important affection on percentage of grafting(G%) and grafting efficiency(GE%), were discussed.Lots of experiments show that the starch of different types or areas, although run with a similar monomer, reacts under different condition each other for the difference of starch抯 physical properties. Fwthermore, the recent study and application of graft copolymers empolyed as heavy metal ions adsorbent or flocculant were emphasized. Part Il:The synthesis and structural characterization of Starch-Azo dyes graft copolymers. 24 water-insoluble graft copolymers were prepared by potato starch and Azo-dyes in inverse emulsion using Span-80 as emulsifier and K2S208 as initiator under basic condition. The effects of the technology parameters such as amount of base, reaction temperature, reaction time, structure of monomer, concentration of initiator and emulsifier on the G% and GE% have been thoroughly investigated and the optimum yield 69.88% of G% was obtained when the oncentration of monomer,K2S208, KOH and the percentage weight of AGU and emulsifier were used at 0.391,8.65x103,0.178mo1/L,7%,8.02% respectively. The optimum reaction period and temperature were I 20mm and 50 ~C ,respectively. The evidence and structural characterization of the graft copolymers has been researched by means of FTIR spectroscopy, polarizing microscope, X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy(SEM), thermogravimetry analysis(TGA) and differential thermal analysis(DTA). Part III: Utilization of some starch derivatives in heavy metal ions removal. Four types of starch derivatives containing azo groups were used in removal of heavy metal ions from their solutions. The different factors affecting metal ion adsorption on these copolymers, such as pH,metal ion concentration, type of starch derivatives, treatment time, and temperature, were studied. Results obtained indicate that the adsorption values of different 2+ 2+ 2+ 2+ metal ions on these starch derivatives follow the order of Cu >Zn >Co >Cd >Pb2~.The adsorption values depend upon pH, type of starch derivatives, treatment duration, and temperature. The adsorption efficiency percentage of metal ions on the four copolymers ~ft~1tI~ 3 ~IEI ~1 ~?~: Abstract follows the order of poly( VDAAB)-Starch > poly(BPDADEAPO)-Starch > poly(PDAONO) -Starch > poly(AMAB) -Starch. Part IV:Host-guest cbromatographic behaviour of ketones in micellar and their layer chromatographic separation 14 Ketone compounds were excellently separated by polyamide plate chromatography using pure water micellar solutions of hexadecyltrimetyl ammonium bromide as the mobile phase. Their Host-guest chromatagraphic behaviour are similar to their behaviours in micellar paper chromatography. It illustrates that the sui...
