| The solvent-free cationic organic silicone polymer emulsions were prepared and used as handle agents for leather top finishing in the paper. The emulsion polymerization of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) was studied when under basic conditions and using cationic emulsifiers (1231, 1227) and nonionic emulsifiers (OP-10, TX-10 etc.) as complex emulsify systems. The causes such as temperature, pH value, time and the dosage of emulsifiers that would affect the monomer convert rate, the stability of emulsion and the polymer molecular weight were researched. The results showed that under following conditions we can achieve the stable organic silicone polymer emulsions, that is, the emulsion polymerization was reacted under 75癈-80^C, pH 11-12, 6-7 hours and the whole emulsifiers 20%-25% according to the monomer weight. According to analysis the monomer convert rate was at 85%-87%, molecular weights were between 50,000 and 100,000. Then the silicone oils containing hydrogen and amino groups respectively were introduced to modify the emulsions prepared from octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane. The dosage of silicone oils, additive ways were studied to see its effect to the stability of emulsions, monomer convert rate, the grain radius of emulsion and the molecular weight of the polymer. The results showed that the molecular weight was increased and the monomer convert rate was higher than 90% when introduced silicone oil containing hydrogen. The prepared organic silicone polymer emulsions were applied on leather top finishing process as handle agents; and its application properties were contested with domestic and abroad similar products. The results showed that the leather finished with the emulsions prepared directly from octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane only had good lubricious handle but no oily handle.The leather finished with the modified emulsions had both good lubricious handle and oily handle; it can also prolong the maintain time of the handle.
