study on the synthesis and properties of overbased calcium alkylphenate sulfideABSTRACTThis paper involves two sections . First, overbased calcium alkylphenate sulfide ,with lower viscosity and lower chroma., was synthesized. The process conditions, Such as the amount of the lime, CO2 and stearic, promoter and the flow velocity of the C02, have been studied. In consequence ,better process conditions were obtained. The base mumber of the products could reach 350 mgKOHIg. Their viscosities vary from 50 to 80 mm2/s and chroma of oil sample with 5 percent of the product can be low to 2.0 and the product's effective components exceed 53 percent. Second ,the properties of the product are tested, including detergency, antioxidation, antiwear, deposited stability and compatibility with other additives. In addition, the properties of product are also tested in the 1 5W/4OCD package prescription. The outcomes of the experiments have shown that the process only separating water from reaction mixture in carbonation makes the synthesis of overbased calcium alkylphenate sulfide become easier. The process has some advantages as compared to the existing technology, such as simplicity and stability. It can not be found in known literatures and is innovative. The products have the same specification as foreign company's products. The product's chroma and viscosity are superior to those of foreign company's products. They have better detergency, antioxidation, antiwear, stability and compatibility with other additives than the marketed products. Moreover ,they also show the better properties in the 1 5W/4OCD package prescription. So the synthesized products show good prospect of appliance.
