After isolation of monoploids, mutation with UV and NTG, We abtained two strains from Saccharomyces cerevisiae Yl and Y3: SYl-4-14-5(the resistance level of CuSO4 is 8mmol/L) and SY3-2-14-2 (the resistance level of CdCl2 is Immol/L) .The genetic stability of these strains were over 90%.By SephaxG-50 and DEAE-52 then SephaxG-25 for desalination , metallothionein was isolated and purified. We analyzed and compared the biological function of reducing toxicity to heavy metal, resisting the irradiation of UV and ^Co and clearing -OH between these strains. It seemed that a positive correlation between the biological activity and resistance of yeast cells to Cu2+ or Cd2+ was observed. The mutants showed higher biological activity.
