In this paper, the 3D dynamic stress and strain in welding process and the residual stress are virtually analyzed by FEA software ANSYS, and a practical and feasible method is presented for virtual analysis of 3D thermal stress and residual stress in welding. In theory, the coupled thermo-mechanical theory is studied, and the mathematical model of welding process is established. In application, this paper focus on the establishment of the model, the skills in solving problem, the coupled multi-physics methods, the modulation method of filling up the fusing seam, and the efficiency of solving problems. The main features of the paper are as following: l.The calculation in welding process is a material nonlinear procedure that the material properties change with the temperature.2. The mathematic model of transient thermal process in welding is established to simulate the moving of the heat source.3. A method to estimates the role of the interrelated factors that have influence on the precision of simulation in temperature field is study.4. Due to it is hard to converge by use element rebirth method to simulate the fusion and solidification of the material, the method of changing the element material with temperature is used.5. The thermal stress and residual stress in welding can be predicted by using the virtual analysis method in this paper.
