In this paper, several problems about the emulsion polymerization of vinyl acetate (VAc) were studied.(1) Effect of initiator on the emulsion polymerization speed and coversion of VAc at 50.(2) Effect of polystyrene foam (PSF) on the emulsion polymerization speed and polymer character of PVAc emulsion.(3) Effect of the acetaliztion of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) on PVAc emulsion. The results are as follows:(l)At 50"C, potassium persulfate-acetone sodium bisulfite is superior to ammonium persulfate initiator and ordinary redox initiation system.(2) The Core-shell emulsion have been gotten. The emulsion with high viscosity (SOPa.s) and solid content of 33% have been gotten through different ways.(3) The reaction rate that the corresponding system's protecting colloid is the polyvinyl formal is faster than the reaction rate that the response system's protecting colloid is the polyvinyl alcohol. In the same degree of acetal (about 8%) the emulsion viscosity changes with acetic aldehyde is obviously greater than the viscosity changes with formaldehyde.
