This paper describes the meaning and the approach of the controlling exhaust gas emission of present-used carburetor type engine vehicles. The working principle and structure of the closed loop and electronic-controlled air supplementary system are placed emphasis on analysis and research, and the result of the engine bench test shows the fault of the air supplementary system. Accordingly, the closed loop and electronic-controlled air supplementary system are roundly estimated. This paper puts forward executing I/M system, and emphasizes checking and maintaining of present-used vehicles. Be aimed at the characteristic of the fault influencing to exhaust, building the fault diagnosis expert system through idea and method of the analyzing exhaust gas emission component is researched. Through the program edited by Visual Basic 6.0, the module of expert system is designed and the neural network model of fault diagnosis is researched, built and trained. Expert system can make users find out the fault' of influencing emission by man-machine conversation, so provide available measure for executing I/M system.
