Based on the research and development of catalytic oxidation of poor degradable organic waste water, the studies on waste water containing phenols including phenol, 4-chlorophenol,o-chlorophenol and 2,4-dichlorophen etc. are selected and the corresponding electro-catalytic oxidation degradation behaviors and kinetic characteristics on?PbO2> Pt> C was investigated in this paper. Furthermore, the effects of operating conditions, such as phenols concentration, pH, temperature, on the degradation ratio were evaluated. The main conclusions listed as follows:The results showed that phenol, 4-chlorophenol,o-chlorophenol and 2,4-dichlorophen using & -PbO2, Pt, C as anodes could be effectively degraded with the ratio up to 97% under suitable parameters. The electro-oxidation processes were first order reaction rate Macroscopically. Degradation rate can be improved by increasing reaction temperature, pH and current density .when the their initial concentrations were lower.Using potentiostat/galvanostat Model 273A, the electro-oxidation degradation behaviors and kinetic characteristics of phenols compounds on PbC^N Pt> C electrodes were studied by cyclic voltammetry and linear potential sweep technology. It was disclosed that oxidation of phenol, 4-chlorophenol,o-chlorophenol and 2,4-dichlorophen on PbC>2 electrode occurred mainly in the range of oxygen evolving potential with no phenols oxidative polymerization, So the PbC>2 electrode showed the merits of good catalytic activity and steady in the oxidation process. The temperature, pH, concentration and other operating parameter had not obvious influences on the oxidation of phenols compounds on PbC>2 electrode. The electro-oxidation behaviors of phenols on Pt and C electrodes were very similar. The electro-oxidation polymerization of phenol compounds which was affected by diffusion process happened before oxygen evolving. Polymerization could be promoted by increasing temperature and phenol concentration, decreasing pH value of reaction solution. As a results, the catalytic activity was dramatically decreased after reaction.Present study has proved that PbO2 electrode has excellent catalytic activity and steady on the degradation of phenol, 4-chlorophenol, o-chlorophenol and 2,4-dichlorophen phenols. It could be extensively applied in the waste water treated by electrochemical method.
