Acid treatment is an important procedure in the preparation of porous glass. In this paper, acid treatment of porous glass was explored to control- the condition of acid treatment effectively and to prepare for porous glass with high strength and without cracks. The effect of treatment time on output amount of 8263 and the effects of volume, concentration and temperature on acid treatment rate were studied using HC1 as treatment solution. The results indicated that the relation to output amount of 8203 and treatment time was parabolic, that the effect of volume of solution was negligible, and that the relation to concentration of HC1 and acid treatment rate was inverse ratio, and that the effect of temperature to acid treatment rate was in the level of exponent. The dynamics equation and apparent activation energy of acid treatment process were obtained. The mechanism of acid treatment process was discussed. Acid treatment process was controlled by dissolving of boron-rich phase early in the process and was controlled by diffusion in the late process. The relation to treatment dynamics and the swollen stress was analyzed.Porous glass optical sheet with big size would be obtained by controlling acid treatment process by some means such as polishing phase-separated glass, adding different buffer to treatment solution, lowering concentration, increasing temperature, and base treatment etc. The visible spectrum and IR spectrum of original glass, phase-separated glass and porous glass were detected. Scattering of light caused by the above glass was analyzed and the spectra were interpreted. The conclusions were in accordance with treatment dynamics'.A new method detecting the size of phase-separated region and the diameter of porous glass was advanced.The Co2+ ion was doped to porous glass by means of absorption. Visible absorption spectra of porous glass doped Co + ion and Co2+ ion solution were detected. The absorption spectra were discussed preliminarily by ligand field theory.
