The classification and characterization of the laser crystals were introduced in the thesis, and the research and development of the YVO4 crystal were systematically reviewed. The detailed experimental project was carried out to probe the reason of the absorption peak in the 1552nm of YVO4 crystal.The raw materials of YVO4 were synthesized through several different procedures. The liquid-phase synthetic method was improved to obtain the sedimentation of YVO4, which makes the procedure more convenient and the sedimentation more compact. Based on the syntheses of the raw materials, the czochralski method was used to grow the crystal from different charges. By comparing with the spectrum in the Ultra-violet region of the YVO4 crystals grown in the same condition, the result was reached that the presence of the 1552 absorption peak is independent of the direction of the crystal growth and the annealing, but is related to the impurity of the charges.In addition, the corresponding method was brought about the common defect and its cause of formation of YVO4 crystal after it was summarized in detail. The YVO4 crystal of high quality was obtained and the properties of the YVO4 crystal was investigated.
