It is studied the graft copolymerization of Newcell fiber with Methyl Methacrylate, Ethyl Methacrylate and Epoxyethane Methacrylate as monomer and cerium ammonium nitrate as initiator, and discussed about the factors affecting on the weight and-on of fibers. Properties of Newcell fiber grafted with vinyl monomers to the and-on are analyzed, by using measuring strength and elongation at break, dyeing ability, moisture regain, whiteness, thermal property, and so on. It is demonstrated that moisture regain of grafted Newcell fiber is decreased, the dyeing ability (K/S) of grafted Newcell fiber dyed by reactive dyes is complicated andrelated to the structure of monomers and dyes, and the whiteness andstrength and elongation at break of grafted Newcell fiber is not decreased significantly. The thermal degradation of samples of Newcell fiber and Newcell fiber grafted with vinyl monomers having different percent grafting yield has been investigated using the techniques of TGA and DSC. The thermal property and energy of activation E is related to the types of monomer and grafting yield. The characteristic of the spectra of -C=O is tested by using Infrared Spectra from which a absorption bands at 1732 cm-1 of grafted Newcell fiber can be seen. It can be observed by using SEM that grafted Newcell fibers become thicker, the section ofgrafted Newcell fibers are no longer round, and the structure of grafted Newcell fibers become looser. It can be seen from X-ray Diffraction Curves that the crystalline structure of grafted Newcell fiber is not modified by the graft-copolymerization reaction and the crystalline grade is decreased with the increase of grafting yield. It is also showed that the elastic of grafted Newcell fabrics is increased and the tendency of grafted Newcell fabrics to fibrillate is reduced.
