This paper has reported the study of graft copolymerization of acrylate monomers onto poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) redox initiated using potassium diperiodatonickelate(â…£) [Ni(â…£)], potassium diperiodatocuprate(â…¢) [Cu(â…¢)], and diperiodatoargentate(â…¢) [Ag(â…¢)] as initators and was was discussed in three sections.In the first chapter, on the one hand, the development and the present research situation of Ni(â…£) CU(â…¢), and Ag(â…¢) as well as the graft copolymerization of PVA were cited and elaborated; on the other hand, it was set forth that employing the above three kinds of super valence trans-metals to initiate the graft copolymerization of acrylate monomers onto macromolecule, PVA, has important current and theoretical significance. Moreover, it has also narrate the current study on the graft modification and the blend of nylon, and its theoretical sense.Secondly, the redox system made up of Ni(â…£), Cu(â…¢) and Ag (â…¢), and PVA was employed to initiate the graft copolymerization of acrylate monomers onto PVA backbone. The grafting parameters have been determined as a function of temperature, time concentrations of monomer, PVA and initiator. The structure of the graft copolymers was confirmed by Fourier transfrorm infrared spectroscopy (IR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction, Differential Scanning Calorimetric (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The solubility of the graft copolymer was tested as well. The initiation mechanism that the procedure of Ni(â…£), Ni(â…¢) and Ag(â…¢)-Ag(I) belongs to a two-step single transfer mechanism was verified. Furthermore, the single electron produced in Cu(â…¢)-Cu(â…¡) was tested to initiate the graft copolymerization of PVA.Finally, Ni(â…£)-polyamide 6 and Ni(â…£)-terpolyamide redox intiation systems were employed to initiate the grafting copolymerization of acrylate monomers and nylon. And hen, the copolymers were used as the compatiblizer between nylon and PP, and PMMA.
