Expanded bed adsorption (EBA) chromatography is becoming a new separation method in bio-separation engineering. During the separation process, concentration and capture of desired product are simplified as one unit operation. Two important features of the expanded bed compared with packed bed are its low back-mixing and high efficiency.Catechin, a family compound of more than 10 monomers, is the main component of Tea Polyphenols (TP), most of which are esters. It has uniquely practical values in many fields, especially in Food industrial and Bio-medical science, such as oxidation resistance, blood pressure declination, radiation resistance and cancer prevention. Due to catechin monomers' similar characteristics, similar structure and easily oxidized, it is difficult to separate the catechin monomers efficiently and make the cost of reservation higher. This has restricted the productive efficiency of catechin. In order to solve these problems, we applied the expanded bed chromatography to the separation and analysis of crude catechin firstly. The main contents are listed as follows: The figuration of expanded bed system and the designing of its distributor; The study of expanded-bed characteristics with the resin H103, 707, XAD-4 as adsorbents; The adsorption modeling study of the expanded bed loaded with H103 resin; The high adsorption technology study of expanded-bed. The results are achieved as follows:The expansion characteristic accords with Richardson-Zaki equation; The mixed property is expressed with a math formula; The fluidization model is expressed: The adsorption isotherm can be pictured as Langmuir equation; The adsorption equation can be simulated as At=ae equation; The adsorption yield and quality is improved by adjusting the concentration of tea extracts.Based on the results, it has achieved good effect on separating catechin in expanded bed. This is a good attempt and providing technology on separating small molecular.
