Solid-liquid separation is a very important process operation and it is widely used in process industry, such as, chemical industry, pharmaceutical industry. Pharmaceutical intermediates become more and more with the rapid development of pharmaceutical industry. More and better filtration equipments are required to meet filtration of different kinds of pharmaceutical intermediates. The efficiency of solid-liquid separation directly affects the product's quality, yield, cost and working productivity. The solid-liquid separation is also related to the safety of workers and the environment protection. The filtration capability of the suspensions is the key of the design of filtration equipments. In these reasons, there is great engineering significance in the study of filtration capability concerning the representative materiel in pharmacy, and in this paper the particle characters and filtration capability about four typical suspensions used in the pharmaceutical industry are researched by means of tests:Vacuum suction filtration test was adopted to research the filtration capability of four suspensions from pharmaceutical intermediates. A series of filtration tests were carried out with different pressures, different concentrations and different distributions of particles. The filtration characteristics of the four suspensions were discussed by test and theoretical analysis. Filtration velocity, filtration resistance and porosity of cake were researched, and the condensability and its index were analyzed. The effect of pressure, concentration, distribution of particles and temperature in the process of filtration were discussed.In the course of studying the character of the four suspensions, their physical properties were analyzed. The viscosity character about these liquids was researched expressly and the curve between temperature and viscosity was gotten through the test study. The results provide material's elementary parameter for the research of filtration characteristics.The solid phase of suspension in pharmaceutical intermediate solution is usually crystal, and it greatly affects the filtration character. The forming mechanism of crystal particles in typical pharmaceutical intermediates was studied. The particle granularity and distribution with different temperatures were analyzed and related respective characteristic figures were gotten.The results in this paper are useful for the filtration equipment's selection, design and optimization for pharmaceutical intermediates.
