Interference fits are very widely applied to transmit force and moment in mechanical industry, because of their simple manufacturing process. But in all proposed models for determining their characteristics, it is supposed that the contact interfaces are perfect. This is not the case in reality. The objectives of this study are to analyze the contact surface behavior under the effect of surface shape accuracy. In the article, the contact stress of column interface is computed for different shape accuracy used the finite element analysis software ANSYS.The research mainly includes five parts:1. According the mechanics model, the corresponding FEA model of element is established in the ANSYS, then element density and application way are determined.2.The contact stress distribution and stress concentration are studied used the finite element analysis software ANSYS.3. In the condition of certain interference amount transmission load is calculated accurately and contrasted with traditional theory method.4. The influence of different amounts of interference on the radial compressive stress is analyzed.5.Several kinds of the mechanics models with representative shape accuracy are selected and the influence of them on the radial compressive stress and stress concentration of column interface is analyzed.It is discovered that shape accuracy is not always disadvantageous factor. These studied results will be of great value to engineering in improving the design quality of interference fit and reducing the design cost of interference fit according some characteristics of shape accuracy, precision of machine tool and carrying capacity.
