Five sampling areas were set in Nanjing city in order to collect total suspended particulates (TSP) and inhalable participates (PM10) in ambient air. The collected samples were extracted by Soxhelt extraction, concentrated by Kuderna-Danish concentrator and blowing high purity nitrogen in sequence. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry with selected ion storage option (GC-MS-SIS) was used to analysis the pretreated samplesBased on the determined data at various sampling areas, the main sources of PAHs on airborne particulates at representative areas in Nanjing city were estimated by ratios method and factor analysis method. The tracers of various pollution sources were determined by factor analysis method. Lastly the percentage contributions of various pollution sources to SPAHs on airborne particulates in Nanjing city were calculated using multiple regress mordel. The main pollution sources were vehicle emission, coal combusion and unknown source which accounted for 37.5%, 21.2% and 28.8% of SPAHs,, respectively.
