TIG is a prevalent welding method in modern industry. It can gain higher welding quality. TIG can almost joint all kinds of metals, moreover TIG welding can be specially used for some complex locations, but its penetration is shallow and production is inefficient. For the reasons, Ukraine Paton Welding Institute puts forward the method of A-TIG welding.On the base of references, through lots of technical tests, we study the effect of different composition of flux, coating thickness and welding technical parameters on weld form of austenitic stainless steel. We develop more perfect activating flux K.2, and analyze mechanical properties, microstructure and fracture appearance in virtue of hardness, impact and tensile tests, optical microscope, scan electronic microscope and energy analysis instrument.The results show that the penetration of A-TIG welding is greater than that of conventional TIG welding, the depth of penetration of surfacing welding can reach 6.39mm and the depth of butt can reach all thickness 6.00mm. Welded with activating flux K2, the mechanical properties of !Crl8Ni9Ti austenitic stainless steel joint such as distribution of hardness, strength and impact toughness change little. Furthermore the fractures of impact and tensile are characterized by dimple as same as those of conventional TIG welding.
