Monitoring the condition of wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) has important significance for that the machine tool run reliably for a long time. In the paper, a predictive control system of WEDM machining process, is designed; a simulating program for the predictive control system is developed; for the common fault of the equipment changing direction of WEDM, a fault diagnosis system for the equipment changing direction is designed.The design of the predictive control system based on Neural Network include designing control object model, designing predictive model and designing controller model. In term of the project, the simulating program for the predictive control system is developed. The program achieve such functions as converting ant! managing data, designing neural networks .simulating the predictive control system, querying data. The program complete the work of designing and simulating the predictive control system well.The fault diagnosis system for equipment changing direction is developed based on OMRON C200HE PLC. PLC monitoring the condition of the equipment changing direction is realized through improving the circuit of the machine tool. The system can make the machine tool work well continuously when the fault happen. The computer control of the machine tool is realized through the communicating between computer and PLC.The results of simulating the predictive control system show thatthe system can predictive the parameters of machining condition exactly and track the expected output rapid]y and stably, thus validate the validity of the system. The experiment of the fault diagnosis system show that the system can monitor the fault of changing direction and can ensure the machine tool work normally when the fault happen. The experiment validate the validity and reliability of the system.
