CO2 compressor is key equipment for fertilizer production. The CO2 compressors that used in the factories of our country were advanced centrifugal compressor imported from foreign country in 1970s. But these compressor are not so advanced in contemporary time, their efficiency and capacity are not enough along with the progress of the industry. These compressors must be retrofitted with modern three dimensional computational flow dynamic technologies.The CFD software of NREC, PREDIG and COMIG, are used to analyses the performance of the first retrofitted compressor, and find out where the problem is. And the same software are also to analyses the second design. Through numerical computation, comparison and selection, a final design is determined. That presents a new way to design CO2 compressors, and a lot of experiences obtained in such a process. The performance of CO2 compressors increases a lot at the same time.For every problems that encountered in the retrofitting the CO2 compressors are summarized in this paper, the solution for those problems are also given in this paper, these information will be very useful for future designsUp until now, there is no such retrofitting has been realized in our country with three- dimensional computational fluid dynamics for the CO2 compressors. The results in this paper will promote the technological progress of CO2 compressors. Many other CO2 compressors can be retrofitted by such a technology.
