Acid mine drainage (AMD) at mine sites, formed by the sulfide oxidation and the dissolution of sulfate in minerals, may cause heavy metals to leach further from mine wastes or minerals, and seriously degrade environmental quality. Such problems have attracted more attention of researchers and governments in developed countries since 1970's, and in China 1990's.Review of existing research indicates that active-treatment of AMD are developed necessarily to meet stricter demand of environmental pollution control. One of these technologies is sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) biotreatment, a focused research in recent years. In this paper, a special experiment equipment was designed to cognize the adaptive character of SRB in artificial acid mine wastewater surroundings, such as pH, temperature, the ratio of COD/SO42-. The granulated corncobs, one kind of new cost-effective carbon source, have been investigated to obtain the optimal operation. Based on above work, the real coal acid mine drainage sample in Shanxi Province as reused water resource has been further assessed by experiment. In this study, SO42- can be biodegraded to depress small than 250 mg/l, and by product S2- interacting with other heavy metals in coal acid mine drainage precipitate and can be drawn from the bottom of bio-reactor. The contaminant of effluent is below than table-water's standard. So the corncob can be used as one kind of economic and feasible carbon sources in the drainage's treatment and the resource recovering of acid mine drainage with the means of SRB is viable.
