Fiber reinforced plastic has high mechanical strength, especially fatigue durability, and its performance will not be debased obviously under the repetitious outside force . Fiber reinforced plastic has outstanding anti-creep deformation. In these aspects, the other modifying methods can not be compared with it. Resin reinforced by fibers can be used to enhance the resin's performance. In this paper, the glass fiber used as strengthening material and the additives for the PVC are used to enhance the PVC. By studying the tensile strength, the bending strength and the impact strength of the samples, the influence of the short fiber content, the fiber length, and the interfacial adhesion impacting on the composite would be discussed. The hybrid fibers reinforced composites not only reduced the cost, but also got hybrid effect, and obtained the technical effectiveness. The ramie is a kind of natural fibers, which has the high content of cellulose, high strength and the long length in the fiber. The performance of the ramie is outstanding and it is cheaper compared with the glass fiber. Specific gravity of the ramie fiber is lighter than the glass fiber. So it is very beneficial to use ramie and the short glass fiber to make composites owing to reducing the cost and the improvement of the specific strength and the specific stiffness. And the ramie fiber reinforced PVC composite and the ramie and the glass fiber hybrid reinforced PVC composites would also be manufactured too. The influence of the ramie fiber and the glass fiber hybrid reinforced PVC on the mechanical behaviors of the PVC would also be analyzed by testing the samples. The main conclusions are as follows:1. The mechanical performance of the PVC composite completely reinforced by the short glass fibers is better than that of the PVC compositecompletely reinforced by the ramie fibers.2. With the increase of the fiber content, the tensile strength, bending strength, elastic module and the non-notched impact strength of the PVC composite completely reinforced by short glass fibers would all be decreased. The glass fiber didn't make surface treatment in the preparation, so there was a poor interfacial adhesion between the fiber and the matrix. Furthermore, the glass fiber dispersed unevenly in the PVC resin. With the increase of the fiber content, the dispersing of the glass fiber became worse and worse. The short fiber content had little influence on the bending strength.3. When the fiber content was same, the tensile and the bending strength, the elastic module of the PVC composite completely reinforced by the short glass fibers would be increased in accordance with the increase of the length of the fiber, but the increase was not obvious. The impact strength was also increased with the increase of the length of the fiber, which was very obvious when the fiber content reach 10%. After that, this phenomenon was not evident.4. The elongation at break of the reinforced PVC composite would be decreased dramatically, compared with the normal pure PVC material. On the other hand, the difference of the elongation at break between the PVC composite completely reinforced by the short glass fibers and the PVC composite completely reinforced by the ramie fibers was not obvious.5. There would be a positive effect on the tensile strength, the bending strength and the impact strength when the PVC composite reinforced by the short glass fibers and the ramie fibers jointly. The negative hybrid effect could be revealed on the bending strength.
