Mesitylene is an important intermediate in organic synthesis.It is extensive used. One of its main usage is to prepare mesidine which is to prepare dyestuff.It can also be used as herbicide,anti-oxidant,synthesizing medicine,and other chemical products or intermediates.So mesitylene production has significant perspective in industry.Productive process of mesitylene include synthetic method(isomerization) and separating method.Among them method of alkyation is better .In our company,C9 aromatics is the raw material, which distills mesitylene which concentrationis 38.5% after rectification,and it purity is 98.5% by second-step alkylation-abruption.But the process has some problems. There are many productive steps and the cost is very hige.One-step alkylation-separation can solve the problem.In this paper ,production of mesitylene of higher purity which used one-step alkylation-separation was studied and analysed theoretically.Mesitylene which concentrationis 38.5% and Propylene were alkylated in a reactor.Method of orthogonal experiment wasproceeded.The effect of different reaction conditions on yields of mesitylene were inspected.The favorite reaction and rectifition conditions were determinded.In the same time,the different catalysts and reagents of alkylation have been inspected In addtion ,experimental results were enlarged in industry,the results were satisfied.Yields of Mesitylene is up to 82.7%.It is higher than second-step alkylation-abruption by 7.3%.One-step alkylation-abruption is superior to second-step alkylation-abruption singnificantly.
