The thesis deals with the study of synthesis and properity on two series of novel schiff bases and their complexes. One series is salicylaldehyde thiosemicarbazone and the other is benzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone, as well as their Cu(II) Ni(II) Zn (II) Mn(II)and Co(II) complexes have been synthesized respectively. The two series of 20 compounds have not been reported previously.Elemental analysis, thermogravimetry, IR, UV/vis and molar electroconductivity measurement were used to characterize all the compounds, the ligands were identified by 'H-NMR and MS additionally. The chemical formulae and possible structures of the compounds were proposed based on the characterization. The ligand ST is tridentate, coordinating with the matal ions through two nitrogen atoms from imine and amine and one oxygen atom from hydroxybenzene. The ligand BT is didentate with two coordinate nitrogen atoms from imine and amine respectively.TTC method was used to test the activity of part of compounds on cell surival rate in seedling. And the influence of enzymatic activity of SOD enzyme and POD enzyme have also been carried out. The bactericided activity of some compounds against E. coli and S. aureus have been determined by using circular filter paper method and concentration dilution method. Epoxidation of styrene catalysted by some complexes of the BT series as model compounds of oxygenase has been studied and the effects of construction of ligand, pH as well as reaction temperature on epoxidation are investigated.
