Azo dye is a new class of optical disc medium with high-density recording performance for its remarkable optical and thermal properties within short wavelength region. Furthermore, azo dye is a promising candidate for rewritable optical disc medium for its trans-cis photoisomerization. The literature review is made on the recent ten years' development of the phorochromic azobenzene compounds and photochromic azobenzene liquid crystalline macromolecule. Based on this, 29 azobenzene derives have been synthesized.I : substituented azo-benzenamineII: substituented azo-phenolHI: substituented sulfanilamide azo-benzenamine(phenol)The structures of all the compounds are characterized by IR, MS and 1HNMR, and the results indicate that the synthesized substances are the target compounds. The potochromic properties such as adsorption spectra , reversibility etc are examined by UV. Representative compounds with the properties of reversible photochromism are also tested by DSC. The results suggest they all have the photochromic properties , with photoromism of compounds I1, I2, I3, I4, I5, I6, I7, I10, I12, I15, I17, I18, II3, III2, III3, III4, III5, III6 being evident.Based on analysis of experimental data, the relationship between the structure of the target compounds and their photochromic properties have been proved. From the point view of kinetics, the Ea of isomerization being calculated through the thermo-kinetic formula, the feasibility of reaction has been testified.
