Taking a hydrogenation reactor in use as example, in virtue of ANSYS5.6, mechanical stress and steady-state temperature field of the skirt supporting region were analyzed. Furthermore, thermal stress and mechanical and thermal stress were analyzed with the data of steady-state temperature field. Stress assessment was also conducted. With the aid of APDL(ANSYS Parametric Design language) and OPT (optimization tool), parametric FEA modal was set up, and optimization file was worked out. Optimization was made for the h type forge piece and inside diameter of the head under the principle of quasi-equal strength based on the code of "design by analysis", which reduce about 16% material consumption. With the triangle cells and a pressurized thick wall cylinder, the influence of gridding density, length ratio of border, mesh layers on the account precision of the FEM was analyzed. The relationship of the gridding density, CPU time and account precision was also discussed. The optimization was processed on the skirt support location and the discussion was carried through on the specification of the support location made in HG20652-1998 "Specification of Columns Design" based on the analysis of the infection of the stress state to the supporting field using ANSYS5.6.
