The titanium sol precursors as pillaring agent were prepared by the hydrolysis of titanium isopropoxide (TTIP) in various mediums, including HC1 aqueous solutions and acetic aqueous solutions. The titanium pillared clays with different pore structure were synthesized by the pillaring of sodium-based montmorillonite with various Ti sol precursors. The preparation conditions, such as reaction temperature, aged time and calcined temperature et al., were studied to evaluate their effects for Ti-PILCs' structure. In this study, The Ti-PILC synthesized by the pillaring of Ti-precursor from the hydrolysis of modified TTIP with acetate group in water was firstly reported. A complete characterization of the intercalated solids was carried out by XRD, FT-ER, TEM and N2 adsorption-desroption studies. The Fe-exchange Ti-pillared clays were synthesized by cation doping techniques. The catalytic properties of Fe-Ti-PILCs as heterogeneous catalysts in catalytic wet peroxide oxidation of simulated phenol solutions were evaluated and the optimum reaction conditions were achieved. The Ti-PILCs modified with cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide were synthesized and the resulting Ti-PILCs showed better adsorptive properties for organic compounds than the original. The organic modified Ti-PILCs as absorbents in absorption and decolorization of methyl orange solutions were studied and the results demonstrated that the organic modified Ti-PELCs presented higher adsorption activities than montmorillonite and Ti-PILCs.
