Camouflage techniques are one of three most advanced military affairs. Those have been regarded as the exploited high-tech of military affairs. As the developing of exploration, the primary camouflage techniques face great challenge. The new camouflage materials with thin-coat, light-weight, wide-frequency and more functions have been required urgently. These years, with the developing of intersectional study, more materials may be choosen as camouflage materials. The character of camouflage materials will be enhanced much with the application of nanotechnology in the preparation of camouflage materials. The capability of camouflage materials will be advanced with the composite of more kind materials.Nanoscale materials are perfect infrared absorbing materials. They have the capability of thin-coat, light-weight, wide-frequency and more functions, which are required as camouflage materials. Nanoscale materials have been regard as the most potential camouflage materials in 21st century. The study of applying nanoscale materials to camouflage materials is valuable in military affairs, so few literatures are reported in public.A study of synthesis and infrared absorbency of nanoscale composite materials is reported in this paper, in order to exploiting new camouflage materials. The first, nanoscale composite powders TiO2/Fe2O3 have been successfully synthesized by sol-gel technology derived from Ti(C4H9O)4 and Fe(NO3)3 .9H2O.The second, the structure of TiO2/Fe2O3 nanoscale composites with different compositions are studies with XRD, TEM. The well crystallized, equirotalpowders of TiO2/Fe2O3 composites have been prepared. And the diameters of those powders are 10nm-20nm. The Fe3+ have been mixed into TiO2/Fe2O3 nanoscale composites with different compositions from the result of XRD.The third, the infrared absorbency of TiO2/Fe2O3 composite with different compositions has been studied with infrared spectra, and the conclusion has been drawn that absorption peaks of the nanoscale composite materials are wider than one of the nanoscale materials, and wider than general materials much more. These prove that nanoscale composite materials are appropriate to camouflage materials. The forth, the nanoscale composite materials made up of TiO2, Fe2O3, Al2O3, SiO2 will have been synthesized by sol-gel technology. Moreover, the reason about infrared absorption of nanoscale composite materials extending have been discussed.
