As information technology leaps , personal computers, printers, modems, portable computers, cellular phones and the internet have become an essential part of the daily life of millions and have created profound impacts on the society. The computer is gradually taking place of man power in many aspects of work execution, at the same time, the organization must change frequently to respond to the changing market for its products and to meet evolving customer needs. All these above bring out a new challenge for the office design in the future that meets the demand for a new working environment.ObjectiveAs title suggested, this thesis focuses on the study of office work. Through the intact assurance of the form and function of modern office work, the thesis explores the design theory of office furniture suitable for modern office work, as well as the application of the theory to the case design.OutlineThis is a pioneering study of office work. It comprises the following four stages.I. To collect and analyze historical data. From the point of view of history, the evolution of the office work, organization and the office equipment is examined and then the main reason that influence the office work is proposed.II. Based on the conclusion reached, the thesis attempts to hold the characteristics of modern office work through the description of modern organization and office equipment, as well as the investigation into domestic office work.III. This thesis proposes a four-stage methodology for office furniture design, namely observation of working environment-transformation of design language-presumption for working environment-development of the concept, and the designer will thus be able to visualize different individual demands for office furniture and in result create a successful design for the office work.IV In the form of materialization, this thesis attempts to predict the form of office work in the future by taking a look at the new office equipment and the development trend of the future organization.
