The literatures on hand in relation to the methods of preparing ferrate(VI) were summarized in this paper. The techniques for preparing ferrate(VI) solution by SPE cation membrane in the anode chamber and the direct electrochemical preparation of solid Fe(VI) super-iron battery compounds were explored, respectively. The results suggested that the concentration of KOH, the temperature, the current density and the duration time of electrolysis were the important parameters for producing FeO42-.Ferrate(VI) solution was used in treating azo dyes and phenolic waste water. The degradation of compounds was discussed by I-V cyclic voltammogram, IR and UV spectrum. Results of I-V cyclic voltammograms showed that the redox peaks corresponding to organic compounds were not observed in the treated solutions. Instead, a couple of Fe3+/Fe2+ redox peaks were observed. IR results indicated that organic compound was decomposed by FeO42-. The degradation and the decolorization of dyes were confirmed by the measurements of visible spectrum and chemical analysis.The synthesized solid ferrate(VI) salts were used as a cathode materials in the alkaline cell (Zn anode). XRD, SEM and IR were performed to identify the structure of ferrate salt. The experimental results demonstrated that the super-iron battery, appeared several energy and environmental advantage.
