In this paper, the coordination compounds of Lanthanum, Cerium, Praseodymium and intergrowth rare earth phthalate were synthesized by the method of water-solution in various pH respectively, the optimal synthesizing conditions and the coordination modes of carboxyl were investigated; The structures and properties of the productions were characterized by XRD, IR and element analysis, dissolving capability experiment, UV, fluorescence spectroscopy and TG-DTA etc; The photosensitive effect of the coordination compounds in PE and PVC were pilot studied.The results indicated that, the rate of production were the highest when the reaction temperature were 80 C, the excessive percent of ligand were 5%~10%; the coordination modes of carboxyl can turn from oxo-bridging coordination to bidentate coordination, the pH values at the turning point remove to lower from Lanthanum, Cerium to Praseodymium with the increasing of nuclear charge number due to the lanthanide contraction. the coordination compounds were soluble in DMF and DMSO; comparing to the coordination compounds of rare earth phthalate, the absorption intensities of the coordination compounds of rare earth acid phthalate were stronger in ultraviolet spectra, but weaker in fluorescence spectra; the initial decomposition temperature of the coordination compounds were about 400癈, the thermal stability is high, it can be used as plastic Ingredients.When the additive quantity of the coordination compounds of intergrowth rare earth phthalate in PE film were 0.25%, it has obvious photo degradable accelerate action to PE plastic after 15 days irradiation. comparing with the iron stearate and rare earth stearate series photo-sensitizers, the photosensitive effects of the synthesized coordination compounds of rare earth aromatic carboxylate were approximately; similarly the photosensitive effects of the coordination compounds to PVC plastic were approximately with rare earth stearate after definite times' irradiation.Make a comprehensive view, the material of the synthesized rare earth aromatic carboxylate photo-sensitizers in the experiment are so cheap and available, and the method of synthesis is so simple, that the synthesized compounds have wide, potential application in the environmental degradable plastics.
