In recent years, the consumption of wood was restricted for the lack of forest resource. But the demand of ornamental materials of wood was sharply increasing with the improvement of living level and housing. It was a hot subject in the field of material science to develop a new kind of ornamental materials to replace the wood. Much attention was paid on thermoplastic filled with non-plant-fibers to produce wood-like plastic. In this paper, poly (vinyl chloride) resin and non-plant-fibers was selected to synthesize wood-like ornamental plastic on the basis of the principle of polymer filling and modification through the technique of compound mixing. The effects of the dosage of filler, particle size, plasticizer, different primers and treatments of non-plant-fiber and toughing agents on filling system were studied respectively. The result showed that the higher the dosage of filler was, the worse the mechanical properties were. But the ball-pressing hardness, heat-resistance and moisture adsorption was unproved slightly. Meanwhile the processing property of the filling system became difficult. With the same dosage of filler, the mechanical properties, hardness, heat-resistance was increased with the particle size decreasing, but the moisture adsorption diminished. DOP would bring out the drop of the tensile strength of the composite and improvement of the impact strength. The processing property was good. The properties of the filling system were improved by the treatment of the non-plant-fiber, especially the non-plant-fiber treated by NaOH and coupling agents. The toughing agents ameliorated the toughness of the filling system, but some properties of the material such as tensile strength and so on were decreased at the same tune. Among the toughing agents CPE had better effects on the non-plant-fibers filling PVC system.
