The treatment of the oxidation residua released from Terephthalic acid is necessary inchemical factories. In this paper, a new application of the oxidation residua from Terephthalicacid was introduced. A kind of new mesoporous activated carbon was prepared using theoxidation residua. The preparation method and process were described in detail. Twochemical experiments were designed to investigate the application effects. To prepare the activated carbon from the oxidation residua, first remove Benzoic acidfrom the oxidation residua. Then react the treated oxidation residua with Calcium hydroxide(Ca(OH)2) to form Calcium compound. And rough activated carbon will be obtained bycalcining Calcium compound without air under the temperature ranges of 500℃~800℃.Finally, followed by acid washing, water washing and drying, the activated carbon can beobtained. Two kinds of airtight carbonization reactors were designed to accomplish the preparationof the activated carbon. The reactor was put in the muffle furnace and connected with themass-detecting system. The mass-detecting system can monitor instantly the varying massrate. In this way, data can be collected rapidly and accurately. The BET surface area and porous distribution of the self-preparation activated carbonwere measured. The results showed that the sample had a large surface area of 1153m2/g anduniform pores about 2~10nm. The self-prepared activated carbon can be classified asmesoporous carbon. The macromolecule dyes such as the reactive red X-3B and the direct light turquoise GLwere used to investigate the influence of porous distribution on the diffusion rate. Thefiltration effects were tested among the manganese acetate solution containing ferrichydroxide. The results showed that the self-preparation carbon could adsorb themacromolecule dyes rapidly. The ferric hydroxide could be filtered from the manganeseacetate solution efficiently. In general, the oxidation residua. released from Terephthalic acid can be recycledreasonably. The new mesoporous activated carbon prepared from the oxidation residua has agood sight in industrial application. And the cost of recycling is low. It is of great benefit toenvironmental protection.
