In order to find out the influence on the cutter cutting capability caused by milling insert grooves, we design the groove testing system. This system integrates measure with analysis and it can be used to test the instantaneous value of the milling wave. The system has high delicacy and its anti-jamming is good, it is an important means to deal with this task. Evaluating the grooves by the spectral analysis and distilling and contrasting the groove geometry segment is based on the acquisition data and processing of the groove testing system, so it is preparing for the groove optimization.Based on the groove testing system, we induced the spectral analysis which is the signal analysis tool into evaluating the grooves, and used it as an evaluating standard. In the incontinuous cutting, the wave shape of milling can be looked as periodic function. When the milling wave shape with single-tooth was looked as impulse function, by the Fourier Transform, we can find out that it is composed of sine wave with a given frequency and a series of integer multiple frequency. Discussing on the power function is a major tache for studying on the cutting capability of the complex three-dimension groove milling inserts, so to know the facts that affect the single-tooth milling spectral value, and to observe the dynamic milling wave property from the composition of the power spectral, thus we can design and optimize grooves.In order to improve the cutting capability and reliability of the complex three-dimension grooves milling insert, we deeply discussed about the relation between cutting parameters and the cutting capability of different grooves inserts and provided the milling force mathematical model. Based on the groove testing system, we deeply discussed and analyzed the typical groove geometry segments and their combination of the complex three-dimension grooves milling insert, what's more, we evaluated and optimized the geometry parameters of the insert. Based on the relation between cutting parameters, geometry parameters and the cutting capability of different grooves inserts, we provide the exploitation and design rules of the milling insert grooves.
