Fourier transform attenuated total reflectance infrared spectroscopy (ATR/FTIR) is used to determine the structure information of exterior of substance. The technique has some distinguishing merits that it can quickly and accurately determine substance without destructing it and pretreatment is needless. By the technique, a good infrared spectrum of some substances can be gotten such as leather and fiber which conventional method can't deal with. A lot of research and experiment with component of leather and pesticide remnant on surface of vegetable has been done by ATR/FTIR. The result of experiment shows that not only leather and artificial leather can be distinguished by ATR/FTIR, but also the main component of artificial and synthesized leather can be identified. Moreover using ATR/FTIR to quantitatively and qualitatively analyze pesticide remnant, the result is better than transmission spectroscopy. Therefore the technique provides a new crosscut for research on pesticide remnant on surface of vegetable.
