Red Clover belongs to the genera of clover of the family legume. In China, the plant is widely distributed in Xinjiang, Yunnan, Hubei, Guizhou, Sichuan etc. It is widelyplanted in Enshi Autonomous Prefecture .Red clover contains many kinds of Vitamins, amino acid, sugars and flavonoids. The object of research is Badong Red Clover ,the physicochemical properties and fatty acid composition and unsaponifiable matter constituents had been investigated in the thesis.the result revealed that palmitic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid are the major components, while octadecanoic acid, linolenic acid, eicosanic acid are the minor ones; the unsaponifiable matter were separated by column chromatography and thin-layer-chromatography with silica gel G .The main contents of the unsaponifiable matter of Badong Red Clover seed oil are hydrocarbons, triterpene alcohols,4-methylsteols and sterols. These four fractions are separated by column chromatography and thin-layer-chromatography. And their contents in the unsaponifiable matter are determined. In the sterol fraction four compounds are identified by GS-MS. They are ergosta-7,22-dien-3B-ol, campesterol, (3-sitosterol,stigmasta-5,24(28)-dien-3B-ol. It was found that lupeol and (3-amyrin are present in the triterpene alcohol fraction ,and gramisterol and citrostadienolare in the 4-methylsterol fraction. The acetates of triterpene alcohols were separated by thin-layer- chromatography of silica gel G impregnated with silver nitrate. The identification of major components was carried out by melting-point determination, optical rotation and gas chromatography. Lupeol was isolated and identified. No evidence of nonedibles was found in this oil.
