This paper systematically studied the formulations, processing parameter of silane cross-linked polyethylene systems specially for pipe and wire cable. The type of PE, initiator and silane were choiced, and the effects of the PE structure, the content of DCP and silane on the melt flow rate (MFR) of grafted products and gel fraction of crosslinked products were investigated. The effects of processing equipment and processing parameter on the properties of cross-linked products were studied, finding the ideal equipment and processing conditions for preparing silane-g-PE. The rheologic properties of silane-g-PE were determined by means of an on-line slit rheometer. Ea, n, ko of crosslinking reactions were induced through chemical model, quantitatively analyzing the influence of water content, temperature, catalyst on grafted PE. The relation of the micro-structure and properties of crosslinked high-density PE was investigated, the influence of gel fraction on density, crystallization behaviour, mechanical properties and thermal properties was studied. The change of above-stated properties was reasonably explained on the basis of micro-structure of silane-crosslinked HDPE. The factors influencing mechanical properties and flame retardance of non-halogen flame-retardant cable were analyzed. Ease-processing silane-g-PE for aluminum-plastics laminated pipe and wire cable were studied, and were produced successfully in BUSS extruding equipment.
