L-series modified protein tanning agent is synthesized with the method of graft-copolymerization by acrylic monomers and hydrolyzed polypetide of chrome-shaving, which is hydrolyzed with complex organic acid. The existence of graft-copolymers between chrome-shaving hydrolysate and acrylic monomers are confirmed by FT-IR and 13C-NMR analysis. The possible structere form of molecular in hydrolyzed and tanning agent is presumed and conformed by 13C-NMR and FT-IR analysis. And graft copolymerization is separated and acquired by acetone extracting.Goat raw skin could be converted into soaked hide by soaking, alkali treating, liming, de-liming, bating, picking. Eight analogs of collagen is prepared by de-picking, salting and baking, which are normal hide power, de-amide hide power, ethyl hide power, chrome hide power, normal hide block, de-amide hide block, ethyl hide block, chrome hide block. Both polyvinyl alcohol and polyamide are selected as two models of collagen. The models and analogs of collagen are tanned by L-series modified protein tanning agents. It has been found that the tanning effects between tanning agents and collagen are the results of concerted action by means of poly-hydrogen bonds, ionic bonds, coordination linking bonds and interpenetrating network cross-linking. The influence of different tanning agent on the rate of combine and combined forming with collage is compared.Leather can be acquired from soaked hide by tanning, modified protein tanning agents re-tanning, neutralizing, greasing. The results of determination shows that modified protein tanning agent can penetrate and disperse bundle of collagen fiber, wring and package in micro-fiber by physical and chemical property, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope. And modified protein tanning agents can improve the flexibility and fullness of leather. L-4 is superior to other tanning agents in L-series modified protein tanning agents.
