The study of the constituents and properties of human body odor is of great significance in the criminal reconnoitering, disease diagnosing, etc Solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) and sample pre-concentration trapping (SPT) are chosen as the sample pretreatment methods because of their suitability for gas samples Thus, SPME and SPT are coupled with GC-MS to analyze the constituents of human body odor The experiment conditions including sampling position, media, preparing are optimized The experiment results show that SPME is better than SPT in this studyHuman body odor samples are collected in terms of sampling time, age and sex, separately and analyzed with the optimized analysis program The result shows that the constituents of human body odor are very complex and more than 200 substances are detected The constituents of human body odor are categorized into halogenated hydrocarbons, aldehydes, ketones, phenols, ethers, esters, acids, alcohols, hydrocarbons, aromatic compounds, etc The latter three are the major constituents. Organic acids are detected in trace amount, which is different from the result in the foreign literatures. Tracking experiments of an individual sample in 20 days are conducted and it is indicated that the constituents of the samples change slightly in the period of sampling time The result proves it feasible to recognize individuals by their body odors The statistic analysis of a number of samples illuminates that the components structure of human body odor is significantly variant due to different age stages The difference between female odor and male odor is also significant Acids and epoxy alkanes are detected in male samples while not found in female ones Abnormal body odor samples are studied by comparing with normal ones and some representative materials are significantly different The comparability degrees of the chromatograms are calculated with computer software At 15-25 min of a chromatogram, the comparability degree is lower than that of the whole chromatogram, so the characteristic constituents of human body odor maybe exist in this retention time period.
