With the development of steel and iron industry, the requirement to quality of iron much stricter, most research is focused on clean iron making technology and much attention is paid to the effect of refractories on clean iron making. Recently, the applications of nitrogen ceramics in refractories show potentially prospective application in iron and steel industry and nitrogen ceramics are possible to be a candidate as new refractories for clean iron making. As a representative of advanced nitrogen ceramics, MgAlON owns well corrosion resistance and thermal shock resistance, but worse oxidation resistance. Simultaneously, Hexagonal Boron Nitride owns high thermoconductivity and low thermal expansion coefficient, especially excellent corrosion resistance to iron melts, well thermal shock resistance and oxidation resistance. Composites containing BN have been applicated in iron and steel industry. Combining BN with MgAlON will not only further improve the corrosion resistance of multiphase composites to iron melts and slag, but also protect the oxidation of MgAlON. So, it is of practical significance and wide application prospective to research MgAlON/BN/corundum and MgAl2OVBN/corumdum multiphase refractories.Based on the outstanding properties which MgAlON and BN shows in the refractories application, experiments in the paper have been done as follows:At first, the influence of composition, sintering temperature and atmosphere on the phase composition, crystal lattice constant and microstructure of MgAlON produced by in-situ reaction was investigated respectively, and the influence of BN on the sintering property and oxidation resistance was further researched, at the same time, Al2O3-MgA10N-BN multiphase refractory was produced.Secondly, the influence of BN on the sintering properties of MgAl2O4, the oxidation resistance of MgAl2O4-BN and the properties of the Al2O3-MgAl2O4-BN multiphase refractory was studied.Finally, the influence of BN on sintering properties and slag resistance of Al2O3-MgO castable was investigated.
