In this paper, the current shaping methods for green ceramic balls were compared. All of them two-grind-wheels shaping method has incomparable advantages. The theoretical analysis and experimental research of shaping mechanism were processed.Based on analyzing the revolving movement and forced condition of green ceramic balls, the grinding process and sphering mechanism were studied in theory. The key for a green ceramic body to become an idea sphere is realizing high point grinding and good grinding equiprobability. The structure of grinding wheels can realize high point grinding, and the good grinding equiprobability lies on a proper spinning speed and the random variation of the spinning axis.After analyzing the data of large numbers of single-factor experiments, two orthogonal experiments were performed. Finally the optimal process parameter was found. Based on the data of orthogonal experiments, the spherical deviations and processing times for wheels with grain size 80# and 120# were compared. In the experimental condition, the spherical deviation can be controlled within 0.03mm strictly, and the best is 0.02mm.The structure of green Si3N4 ceramic ball was studied. By the analysis of the traditional grinding model for brittle-hard materials, grinding mechanism for green ceramic balls was put forward. After the observation of sintered ceramic balls with SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope), grinding crack and surface roughness was researched, and any grinding crack was not found from the SEM images.
