In order to reduce the corrosion of metal pipeline and prolong the life of it, today, cathode protection technology has been widely applied in project, but the dedicated power supply has many defects of low reliability, large direct current ripple, complicated circuit, big loss, and so on.In order to reduce direct current ripple and improve constant-voltage effect, insulated gate bipolar transistor---IGBT has been selected as the main component in direct power supply for corrosion prevention. TL494 is utilized to produce PWM wave and is combined with M57962L driving chip to realize IGBT driving circuit and IGBT over-current protection circuit with perfect performance, which lays the foundations for reducing direct current ripple and improving reliability.By means of practical activities, we have finished the study on principle and experiments. As a consequence, one sample power supply with 100A/90V has been made. The experiments have shown that the new device is superior in constant-voltage effect of reference electrode, direct current ripple, reliability, volume and weight than the old one.The article introduces the technology schemes of the power supply and describes the working principle of the main circuit, IGBT driving circuit and IGBT over-current protection circuit in detail. The experiment procedure and the related data are presented also. On the basis of theory analysis and experiments, we consider that the application of PWM technology for new power supply is available. The new power supply is superior to old one, and is of great application value.
