The synthesis of hydrogen peroxide in a proton exchange membrane (Nation) electrochemical reactor was explored. The electrode kinetic parameters for the electrocatalytic reduction of oxygen on porous gas-diffusion electrodes were obtain by measuring the relations of cell potential and current density. Oxygen accepted two electrons from a reduced mediator to form hydrogen peroxide. The catalytic reduction was controlled by the first electron-exchange step at lower current density region and by the mass transfer process of dissolved oxygen in the cathodic solution at higher current density region. An experimental cell of electrolysis for alkaline hydrogen peroxide was presented, and the effects of electrode structure, electrocatalytic material and operation condition such as temperature, oxygen pressure and cell potential on the performance of electrolysis were discussed. The steady-state polarization curves of oxygen evolution were measured at temperatures between 25-60℃ on Ni anode in 30wt% NaOH solution. The exchange current densities, Tafel slopes and transfer coefficients were studied. It was found that 40℃ is a special temperature, near which the kinetic parameters changed abruptly. In conclusion, the amplified reactor was evaluated through measuring the technical parameters such as current efficiency, power consumption, product alkali ratio and so on.
